William Hurlstone. 1876-1906. was an English pianist and composer and wasconsidered in his time one of the most interesting English musicans of his time. He was not reared in a musical atmosphere but managed to publish a set of five waltzes for the piano at the age of nine. Having won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, he studied with Stanford for composition and Ashton and Dannreuther for pianoforte. He was a brilliant pianist and exceptionally gifted as a sight-reader and performer of chamber music.
