ML.012186070. The song of praise and thanks 'Te Deum Laudamus'. We praise Thee God. used to be the final part of the Matins. first prayers of the day in monasteries. According to tradition this type of song was created by Saint Augustine nowadays scholars think that the author was Nicetas of Remesina. 4th century. In later times several many-voiced Te Deums have been composed by Lassus, Lully, Delalande, Charpentier and Mozart. In the 19th century several composers, such as Berlioz, Verdi, Dvorak, Vaughan Williams and Peter Benoit, turned the Te Deum into a large composition for soloists, massive choirs and orchestra. This imposing religious composition by Lancen was written in 1991 and was dedicated to Cardinal Jean-Marie LUSTIGER, Archbishop of Paris. Seduced by the beauty of the Male Choir, Serge Lancen has composed this work for two soloists. Tenor and Baritone. and Male Choir, accompanied by fourteen musicians or groups of musicians. The six parts are. TE DEUM LAUDAMUS - TU REX GLORIAE, CHRISTE - SALVUM FAC POPULUM TUUM - MISERERE NOSTRI, DOMINE - IN TE DOMINE SPERAVI - LAUDEMUS. The latter ends with a repetition of the first sentence of Te Deum laudamus and its theme. In order to compose the 'Sanctus' in the 'Te Deum laudamus', the composer has used the Sanctus theme from the MISSA SOLEMNIS. The initial motif of this theme comes back at the end of the second and of the third part.
