Silent Durations XXII was written for the French saxophone virtuoso, Daniel Kientzy. It features Drake Mabry's trademark usage of silence as a musical architectural device. The solo part for bass saxophone highlights the tonal variations of this instrument in its various registers. The slow first movement is followed by a rapid and invigorating second movement. This is the first part of a trilogy of works based on the same source material. The other works are Concerto for Kientzy and Silent Concerto Durations which brings together the previous two compositions as one work.
