Kira and Jan. s Journey. during the Summer of 2003. It was commissioned by the project Cantania of the Consorci de lAuditori i lOrquestra, El Consell Comarcal del Valles Oriental, lAjuntament, el Teatre Auditori and lAssociacio Cultural de Granollers and LEscola Municipal de Musica de Girona. The objective of this project is to bring music to children by getting them involved in singing. The piece is conceived for a big children. s choir and an instrumental ensemble of nine players. string quintet, piano, flute, clarinet, and percussion. The singing part is often written as a single voice. unison. in order to make the choir part easier and to make it accessible to everybody with the work and assistance of the school music teachers. The instrumental parts, however, are thought out to be performed by professional musicians. I was very interested in this project as it can become an instrument for a cooperative and educational endeavor with a great artistic and human dimension addressed to all youth, where there is so often a lack of motivating musical projects. I asked the well-known poet and writer Susanna Rafart, with whom I feel closely connected by a special friendship, to write a story with a moral content which can be fun and profound at the same time. The result is "El Viatge de Kira i Jan" which fits in perfectly with the future celebration in Barcelona of the Cultural Forum. The text is very much alive and rich in detail, and makes people reflect on the idea of supporting, respecting, using, and protecting all languages and cultures of the world. Each language, in spite of the number of people that speaks it, is a whole world that needs eveyrbody. s respect. Musically speaking, after an instrumental Prelude which was written "a posteriori" the piece follows the rhythm of the narration by the two main characters, followed by sung numbers which comment and make the story move on. The journey breaks through this scheme alternating the music with the narration. The result is a number with great dynamism in a journey which begins in Africa, continues in the Middle East, then China, and ends in South America.

L'objectiu d'aquest projecte és apropar la música als nens perquè facin participar en el cant. La part cantada sovint s'escriu com una sola veu. uníson. per tal de fer la part de cor més fàcil i perquè sigui accessible a tothom amb el treball i l'assistència dels professors de música de l'escola. Les parts instrumentals, però, estan pensades per a ser realitzades per professionals de la música. Jo estava molt interessat en aquest projecte, ja que pot convertir-se en un instrument per a un esforç cooperatiu i educatiu amb una gran dimensió artística i humana adreçada a tots els joves, on no és tan sovint la manca de motivació dels projectes musicals. Li vaig preguntar al conegut poeta i escriptor Susanna Rafart, amb qui se sent estretament vinculat per una amistat especial, per a escriure una història amb un contingut moral que pot ser divertit i profund alhora. El resultat és "El Viatge de Kira i Jan" que encaixa a la perfecció amb la celebració a Barcelona el futur del Fòrum Cultural. El text és molt viva i rica en detalls, i fa que la gent reflexioni sobre la idea de donar suport, respectar, ús i protecció de totes les llengües i cultures del món. Cada idioma, tot i la quantitat de persones que el parla, és tot un món que necessita eveyrbody. s respecte. Musicalment parlant, després d'un preludi instrumental que estava escrit "a posteriori" la peça segueix el ritme de la narració dels dos personatges principals, seguit dels números cantats que comentari i fer que la història es mou en. El viatge es trenca a través d'aquest esquema d'alternança de la música amb la narració. El resultat és una sèrie amb gran dinamisme en un viatge que comença a l'Àfrica, continua en el Mig Orient, després de la Xina, i acaba a Amèrica del Sud.
