In a single movement, the composer covers considerable ground in this exciting work. Mostly ensemble scoring with standard percussion and a few lyrical solo instrument exposures, it can be thought of as musical fireworks in that pyrotechnic displays of fast moving figures give way to short episodes of calm lyricism before another explosion of sounds, timbres, and movement begin again. At eleven minutes in length, it could be the focal point of a concert or a very effective opener or closer.
